Spruitjes met Kastanjes

Spruitjes met Kastanjes is a Dutch food recipe of Brussels sprouts and chestnuts.
Ingredients
  • 1 lb chestnuts
  • 4 oz raisins, rinsed, soaked in boiling water to cover, and drained
  • 2 lbs Brussels sprouts
  • salt to taste
  • 1 oz butter, melted
  • 1⁄4 tsp nutmeg
Instructions
  1. Check chestnuts for quality by immersing in water and discard the ones that float. With the point of a sharp knife, cut a cross on the flat side of the chestnuts. Boil chestnuts for about 40 minutes in water to cover.
  2. Drain and rinse. Peel off the hard shell and inner coating and cut in half. Canned chestnuts can also be used.
  3. Place chestnuts in a large serving bowl. Stir in the raisins.
  4. Boil the Brussels sprouts for about 10 minutes in salted water, drain and add to the chestnuts.
  5. Combine the salt, butter and nutmeg, and mix well with the nuts, raisins, and Brussels sprouts.
