Potato Gratin

Potato Gratin is a Norwegian food recipe with parsnip and rutabaga.
  • 2½ lbs. potatoes, sliced
  • 1 lb. parsnips, sliced
  • 1 lb. rutabaga, sliced
  • 2 bay leaves, cut in fourths
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, cut in half lengthwise
  • ½ tsp. freshly ground nutmeg
  • 1 C. heavy cream
  • 2 C. whole milk
  • ½ lb. grated cheese
  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  2. Add the potatoes, parsnip and rutabaga to an ovenproof dish. Mix the vegetables. Place the garlic and bay leaves in between.
  3. In a bowl or glass, combine milk and cream. Season with nutmeg and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Mix in half the cheese and pour the mixture over the potatoes.
  5. Bake in the oven for 1 hour. Sprinkle with the rest of the cheese; turn the heat up to 350° and bake for 15–20 more minutes, until the cheese is brown.
