Bame cu Carne de Oaie | Okra with Lamb
Recipe type: Entree
Bame cu Carne de Oaie | Okra with Lamb is a Romanian food recipe cooked with onions and tomatoes.
  • 1 lb. okra, washed and stems removed
  • 1 clove garlic
  • olive oil or bacon drippings
  • 4 onions
  • 1 lb. lamb, cubed
  • 1 cup broth or water
  • 2-3 tomatoes, peeled and sliced
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • salt and pepper
  • parsley, thyme, dill, chopped
  1. Rub the bottom of a frying pan with a clove of garlic, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil or bacon drippings and fry onions until very soft.
  2. Add lamb and simmer on a slow fire until the meat is half done. Remove to a pot or a deep baking dish, adding a little more oil or bacon drippings, if needed.
  3. Add okra to the meat with one cup of broth or water. Cook together for 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes, juice of one lemon, salt and pepper to taste, some thyme, dill, a few sprigs of parsley.
  5. Cover and cook slowly until done on top of the stove or bake in the oven.
