Natillas Piuranas

Natillas Piuranas is a Peruvian food recipe for fruit with caramel sauce.
Ingredients
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1⁄2 tsp baking soda
  • 11⁄2 cups packed dark brown sugar
  • 1⁄4 cup water
  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced, mixed with juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 ripe peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1⁄2 cup toasted walnuts or almonds, chopped
Instructions
  1. Heat evaporated milk, milk, and baking soda to boiling in a pan. Turn off heat and set aside.
  2. Caramelize brown sugar and water in a Dutch oven, over low heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Add milk mixture.
  3. Cook uncovered over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until mixture is very thick and golden brown, for about 1 hour. Let cool.
  4. When cold, pour into serving dish and chill for 4 hours or overnight.
  5. Serve over sliced fruit. Garnish with toasted nuts.
