Apple Pie

Apple Pie is one of the most classic American food recipe.
  • • Shell
  • • 2½ cups flour
  • • 8 TSP chilled shortening
  • • 4 TSP chilled butter, cut up
  • • ¼ tsp salt
  • • 6 TSP ice water
  • • 1 TSP melted butter
  • • Filling
  • • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • • ¼ tsp allspice, ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • • 1 TSP flour
  • • 6 cups peeled/sliced apples
  • • 1 TSP lemon juice
  • • 2 TSP butter, cut up
  1. Using a large bowl, mix flour, shortening, butter and salt.
  2. Mix until it resembles coarse meal.
  3. Add the ice water and knead into a ball.
  4. Cover lightly with flour and wrap in wax paper and chill for ½ hour.
  5. Butter a 9 inch pie plate and divide the ball of dough in half.
  6. On a floured surface, roll each half of the dough into a circle about ⅛ inch thick. Roll one half onto the rolling pin and place it evenly on the pie plate.
  7. Cut off the excess on the edge of the pie plate.
  8. In a large bowl combine the sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and flour.
  9. Add the apples and lemon juice and mix completely. Fill the pie shell with the mixture higher in the middle, it will cook down.
  10. Dot the top of the filling with small butter pieces. Wet the edge of the bottom shell.
  11. Place the circular top on, cut the excess off, seal the edge with a fork’s tines and cut small opening in the top.
  12. Butter the top of the pie and bake in a 375 F oven for 40 minutes or the top is golden brown.
